چکیده

This thesis documents the design of logical superposition coded (SPC) modulation for implementation in wireless video multicast systems, to tackle the issues caused by multi-user channel diversity, one of the legacy problems due to the nature of wireless video multicasting. The framework generates a logical SPC modulated signal by mapping successively refinable information bits into a single signal constellation with modifications in the MAClayer software. The transmitted logical SPC signals not only manipulatively mimic SPC signals generated by the superposition of multiple modulated signals in the conventional hardware-based SPC modulation, but also yield comparable performance gains when provided with the knowledge of information bits dependencies and receiver channel distributions. At the receiving end, the proposed approach only requires simple modifications in the MAC layer software, which demonstrates full decoding compatibility with the conventional multi-stage signal-interference cancellation (SIC) approach involving additional hardware devices. Generalized formulations for symbol error rate (SER) are derived for performance evaluations and comparisons with the conventional hardware-based approach.

Cross-layer design of adaptive modulation and coding for multicast system with random network coding

This paper deals with a cross-layer design that combines link adaptation in the physical layer with random network coding for layered video multicasting in a cellular system. The objective is to design the optimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) threshold for adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) that can satisfy the target frame loss rate (FLS) under a delay constraint associated with real-time mul...

A Novel Superposition Multi Rate Coded Modulation (SMRCM)

This paper is concerned with the design of a wireless data transmission which provides Un-equal Error Protection (UEP). A novel Superposition Multi Rate Coded Modulation (SMRCM) system has been introduced. In the proposed SMRCM, the user data bit stream can be divided into two bit streams. The first bit stream represents the region of High Priority (HP), while the second represents the region o...

A Survey on Multicast Routing Approaches in Wireless Mesh Networks

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) which mediates the broadband Internet access, have been recently received many attentions by the researchers. In order to increase capacity in these networks, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi-channel WMNs (MRMC WMNs). Therefore, a vital challenge that poses in MRMC WMNs is how to properly assign channels ...

Adaptive hierarchical modulation and power allocation for superposition-coded relaying

We propose a relaying scheme based on superposition coding (SC) with discrete adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) for a three-node wireless relay system, based on half duplex transmission, where each node decodes messages by successive interference cancelation (SIC). Unlike the previous works where the transmission rate of each link is assumed to achieve Gaussian channel capacity, we design a ...
